We were honoured to go to Como in Italy to collect our A’Design Award for our Swift Logistics project. The main gala event was held in Villa Olmo, which was on the lake front – stunning building and perfect for the event. Some excellent designs and designers there, from all over the world. We spent four days there, A’Design had some great events – the gala night, exhibition, and the Ars Cultura Futura dinner and we attended all three. Would love to go back and see more of the area and stay a bit longer next time.
We are pleased to announce that our ident Swift Logistics has been awarded the prestigious Bronze A’ Design Award in the category of Graphics and Visual Communication Design by the grand jury panel of the A’ Design Award & Competition which consists of internationally influential press members, established designers, leading academics and prominent entrepreneurs. The Bronze award puts us in the top 10% of all submissions to A’Design for this year.
The A’ Design Awards are the world’s most influential and largest design awards, presented each year in Italy. It is a great honour for us to receive this prestigious award and we are very much looking forward to collecting our award in person and networking at the gala at Lake Como in June. We will also be able to see our project exhibited with all the other winning designs at the Museum Of Outstanding Design in Como, for the month of June.
This award gives recognition to the excellence of design on the international stage. You can visit the designmag.org to see all winners or check out our profile on the A’Design website at https://competition.
We were delighted to win the Best New Services Business trophy at the Blacknight SME Awards on Saturday night at the Radisson Blu, Cork. It was a great night hosted by Rick O’Shea – with lots of free merch! Blacknight and the Radisson really pulled out all the stops – great entertainment and great food. We met some amazing businesses on the night, really lovely people and staggering talent. It’s great to see so many small businesses springing up around the country, and doing so well. It is tough starting up a business and these kind of nights really make it worth all the hard work. We were thrilled to take home an SME award for the Best New Services Business – it was stiff competition.
So we are getting a nice trip down to Cork next month for the Blacknight SME awards – we have been chosen as finalists in the New Business – Services category. This is the second year the SME awards have been running – they were introduced in 2015 “to acknowledge the hard work and achievements of small to medium sized businesses in Ireland.”
The awards are on in the Radisson Blu on the 16th April 2016.
So our short animation The Story of Gin has been selected for a great exhibition this summer in Dublin Castle. “The Global Irish Design Challenge is a celebration of Irish design innovation that hopes to activate a global network of talent that spans the breadth of Ireland and extends worldwide.”
The exhibition opens on Wednesday 15th June and runs to Sunday 27th August, 2016 at The Coach House, Dublin Castle.
Our animation The Story of Gin won Silver in the Best Design / Art Direction category at Friday’s Accenture Digital Media Awards – knocking off stiff competition from campaigns such as Rothco for Heineken Ireland, Eir and Ebow for HSE. Ashville Media put on a fantastic night – neon theme and great food and drink at The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel. Pipped to the post by Chemistry’s Jonah Lomu tribute for the Irish Examiner – hats off to them for a brilliant campaign.
It’s been a while since we posted – have been really busy on some projects in the studio. We have also been busy with nominations for some great design awards. This week we have the Accenture Digital Media Awards in Dublin, where we are nominated in the Best Design / Art Direction category, up against some huge competition like Eir, Ebow and Rothco. It’s a black tie gala with a neon theme so we changed our logo to fit with the theme in the run-up to the event. Just have to find some neon for our outfits now…
Next month we have the PromaxBDA Europe Awards, which is “Europe’s premier celebration of entertainment marketing and design”, for which our studio launch is nominated for the Rocket Award. The awards are on in Barcelona and there is an amazing conference scheduled the day before the awards, with talks from Seb Lester, Nile Rodgers and other really cool peeps.
A couple of days ago we were honoured to have an interview with Stephen from Think Business, one of our favourite business websites, about where we are at in our business and how we got there. Have a read of it here.
We were one of the lucky few who got to experience Hendrick’s Gin’s Chambers of the Curious at the weekend – and what an experience. The house on Henrietta Street was full of flickering candlelight, technicians in white coats, and Victorian-era oddities. The cocktail menu was amazing – each one from a different Dublin pub and served by its creator (my favourite was David Soares’ H’Aloe Hendricks at The Exchequer Dublin 2). Between the two of us we got to taste them all, along with some lovely, simple G&Ts.
There were a couple of musicians in the lounge playing saws, waterphones and singing into teapots. We went in groups to three different “professors” who experimented, exhilarated and confused us in equal measure. The carriage ride back into town was in very high spirits, naturally. A highly recommended experience and quite unlike anything else. Have your own gin experience here.
A little side project we did recently for an architect – they needed some atmospheric renderings of their design so we came up with these matte paintings. Nice to do a bit of Photoshop work again, and play around with palettes.
We won the Audience Choice Award for The Story of Gin! Still can’t quite believe it. Fantastic standard of animation at the Dublin Animation Film Festival – some really impressive student and graduate work. We got a brilliant prize from Mutiny Sound, who sponsored our award – they are going to do the audio for our next short – and a great DAFF trophy for the office. Somehow we do not look as terrified and shocked in the photo as we felt!
